Dry Skin Guide | How to Care for Dry Skin | Skincare for Dry Skin

If you have a dry skin type you’re probably tired of suffering from itchy and flaky skin so in this blog post we’re breaking down exactly how you can manage your dry skin and reduce the impacts!

Dry skin is caused by a mix of external and internal factors. Whether you have a dry skin type due to internal factors (e.g. genetics) or external factors (e.g. washing habits) there are things you can do to reduce the symptoms.

The first step is understanding your skin by exploring different products and ingredients that are specifically designed for dry skin to find the one that works for you!

What ingredients are good for dry skin?

In general there are certain ingredients that you should look for when buying skincare products as they’re perfect for those with dry skin.

The key issue to target if you have dry skin is increasing hydration. Coconut Oil is the perfect ingredient to boost moisture on your skin and prevent it from drying out.

Another ingredient to look for to keep your skin hydrated is Jojoba Oil. Jojoba Oil is great at preventing transepidermal water (which is when moisture escapes from your skin) by providing a barrier to help your skin retain hydration.

What products are good for dry skin?

As well as focusing on ingredients understanding the different products and their purpose is key to working with (not against!) your dry skin.

A cleanser is essential in your skincare routine, especially if you have dry skin. This is because as your skin dries and cracks it leaves gaps where bacteria can build up and cause acne. To combat this choose a hydrating cleanser which doesn’t further strip your skin or moisture. For example, one with Hyaluronic Acid.

Similarly, be aware of the ingredients in your moisturiser. Choose one that is specifically designed for your face and is designed to hydrate your skin.

If you use toner as part of your skincare routine double check the ingredients label. Skip any toners that include alcohol as they increase the dryness of your skin by stripping moisture.

Top 3 tips for dry skin

  1. Apply moisturiser immediately after washing as this helps lock in the moisture to your skin.

  2. Use products labelled as “fragrance-free” as fragranced skincare products can be too harsh for your skin and reduce hydration.

  3. Use a humidifier in your home to help reduce the dry air caused by at home heating and cooling systems.
