Why your body is in need of a good scrub: The benefits of exfoliation

Everyone always says that exfoliation is the key to healthy, glowing skin. Well, I disagree.

I say the key to healthy, glowing skin is HYDRATION! Hydration is really key when you are working towards healthy looking and feeling skin. Which is why I have included Shea and Cocoa butter in the B&W body scrubs. Locking in your skins natural moisture and instantly hydrating and exfoliating.

So why is exfoliating your skin so important?

Your skin needs regular exfoliation, removing dead skin cells will help your skin cells renew and also improve your skin texture. You should be exfoliating both your face and body at least twice a week. Without exfoliating, you could start getting a build up of skin cells, leading to blackheads, whiteheads and even breakouts. You should also be exfoliating to help with blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, this will help reduce things like cellulite.

To avoid ingrown hairs, it's vital that your regularly treating your skin as ingrown hairs can cause bumps of infection. You could also get a build up of oils or other products you may have used, which ill appear in the form or KP (chicken legs) or strawberry legs.

How often should you be exfoliating your skin and body?

Both the skin and body will need regular exfoliation, on the face I like to use liquid exfoliators, such as AHA or BHA based products. The main reason why I personally don't like to use scrubs on my face is that I have very sensitive skin and find that when I use an actual scrub, it irritates my skin. Not only that, you can damage your skin barrier by causing micro tears in the skin. This can be really hard to repair. The body also can be subject to micro tears, which is why you should use gentle body scrubs such as B&W Pink Himalayan salt scrubs, these are better for your skin and drainage system!

Can you still exfoliate if you have sensitive or reactive skin?

The answer is YES. As long as you are using a gentle body scrub that doesn't have large grains, you should be fine. Try to use natural body scrubs that are made with no chemicals or harsh ingredients. Definitely avoid using anything that contains ALCOHOL in the ingredients list. You also want to make sure that the body scrub isn't going to be too drying, so use scrubs that don't just exfoliate but also HYDRATE! If your skin is more on the sensitive side, then try to just use it once a week.

What can regular exfoliating mean for your skin?

- Unclog pores

- Prevent face or body acne

- Helps other products penetrate deeper into the skin

- Helps to even skin tone

- Boosts circulation and lymphatic drainage
